PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for use in ferrous powder metallurgy, comprising elemental copper and iron-copper prealloys, which allow sintering with improved dimensional precision.SOLUTION: A powder metallurgical composition comprises: an iron-based metallurgical powder; an iron-copper prealloy, in which the amount of copper in the iron-copper pre-alloy is between about 2 and 10 weight percent, based on the weight of the iron-copper prealloy; and copper powder, and further comprises graphite and a lubricant. Use of the powder metallurgical composition gives PM materials that have good dimensional consistency of minimizing dimensional changes when compressed and sintered.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
