This internal combustion engine is provided with: an internal combustion engine body including a cylinder block and a crankcase; an intake device including an introduction port for blow-by gas and introducing intake air into the internal combustion engine body; an oil separator mounted to an outer surface of the internal combustion engine body at a position overlapping the intake device in a plan view, the oil separator including a suction opening in communication with the inside of the internal combustion engine body, the oil separator also including a discharge opening, the oil separator separating oil contained in blow-by gas from the internal combustion engine body; a one-way valve provided at the discharge opening of the oil separator and allowing blow-by gas to flow in the discharge direction; and a connection passage for directly connecting the introduction port of the intake device and the discharge side of the one-way valve.
