PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide phosphodiesterase 4D7 as a marker for detecting, diagnosing, monitoring or prognosticating prostate cancer.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to phosphodiesterase 4D7 (PDE4D7) for use as a marker for discriminating between a hormone-sensitive and a hormone-resistant prostate cancer. A method comprises normalizing the expression level of PDE4D7 determined in a sample to the expression level of at least one reference gene in the sample, and comparing the normalized expression level with a predetermined cutoff value chosen to exclude hormone-sensitive prostate cancer. A normalized expression level below the cutoff value is indicative of a hormone-resistant prostate cancer. The cutoff value is between 1 and 7.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
