Universal Method of Structural Design and Assembly

A structural system and method of assembly comprising structural members with slots, and interior structural members. Specific structural members are sequentially interconnected in rigid alignment. A first structural member is positioned with two upward facing slots. Additional structural members are added by engaging downward facing slots of the additional structure members with upward facing slots of the prior structural member. The structural members further include engagement features in cooperating slots. A protruding features engages a recess to retain the engaged structural members. The features may be a partial sphere and a matching recess which may be disassembly, or a tapered protrusion having a squared-off rear edge which resists disassembly, or one of a variety of shapes.

1. A method for sequentially constructing a multi-room structure, the method comprising:
constructing a self supporting first room of the multi-room structure, the constructing comprising:
positioning a first structural member having and first structural member first and second upwardly open vertical slots;lifting a second structural member above the first structural member and aligning a first downwardly open vertical slot of the second structural member one of the upwardly open vertical slots of the first structural member to convert the first structural member and the second structural member into engaged structural members;lowering the second structural member and engaging the first downwardly open vertical slot of the second structural member with the aligned upwardly open vertical slots of the first structural member of the first structural member to convert the first structural member and the second structural member into engaged structural members;lifting a completing structural member above the first structural member and at least one previously engaged structural member and aligning a first and second downwardly open vertical slot of the completing structural member with open ones of the upwardly open vertical slots of the engaged structural member; andlowering the completing structural member and engaging the first and second downwardly open vertical slot of the completing structural member with open ones of the upwardly open vertical slots of the engaged structural member converting the completing structural member into one of the engaged structural members to complete the self supporting first room; and expanding the self supporting first room, wherein at least one of the engaged structural members is a shared structural member including at least two additional open upward opening slots, the expanding comprising:
lifting a first expanding structural member above the shared structural members and aligning a first expanding member downwardly open vertical slot of the expanding structural member with a first one of the additional upwardly open vertical slots of the shared structural member;lowering the first expanding structural member and engaging the first downwardly open vertical slot of the first expanding structural member with the first one of the upwardly open vertical slots of the shared structural member;lifting a second expanding structural member above the shared structural members and aligning a second expanding member downwardly open vertical slot of the second expanding structural member with a second one of the additional upwardly open vertical slots of the shared structural member;lowering the second expanding structural member and engaging the second downwardly open vertical slot of the second expanding structural member with the second one of the aligned upwardly open vertical slots of the shared structural member;aligning the third downward opening slots of a third expanding member with two third upwardly opening slots of the first and second expanding members; andlower in the third expanding member to engage the two third downward opening slots of a third expanding member with the two third upwardly opening slots of the first and second expanding members to expand the self supporting first room to include a second room.
