In order to detect arcs (14) in a photovoltaic system (1) having an inverter (2) and a plurality of current collection units (5) which are connected in parallel with the inverter (2) via collection lines (3, 4), wherein a plurality of strings (6) of photovoltaic modules (7) are connected in parallel with each current collection unit (5) via string lines (8, 9), measured values (18, 19) of electrical variables are recorded on at least one of the string lines (8, 9) of each string (6) and/or on at least one upstream collection line of each pair of upstream collection lines, with which a plurality of strings (6) are connected in parallel, and/or on at least one of the collection lines (3, 4) from each current collection unit (5) in the current collection units (5), and measured values (25 to 28) of acoustic variables are recorded on at least one collection line (3, 4) from each current collection unit (5) and/or on at least one current busbar (10, 11) which is assigned to the inverter (2) and to which a collection line (3, 4) from each current collection unit (5) is connected. The measured values (18, 19, 25 to 28) of the electrical and acoustic variables are analysed for the presence of signs of an arc (14) in the photovoltaic system (1); and an arc signal (20, 30) is generated if the available signs of the arc (14) satisfy predefined criteria. |
