A method for well control during managed pressure drilling includes detecting an influx in a wellbore, where the wellbore includes a drill string and an annulus. The method also includes calculating an initial size of the influx, determining a maximum surface pressure due to removal of the initial size of the influx, determining a maximum circulating pressure in the annulus due to the initial size of the influx, calculating an estimated formation pressure due to the initial size of the influx, determining an increase in a flow rate of a pump that is expected to arrest the influx event, where the pump is configured to pump a drilling fluid into the drill string, and directing the pump to increase the flow rate until a flow rate into the drill string is approximately equivalent to a flow rate out of the annulus. |
