摘要 Provided are a detection method and a detection apparatus by which a physical property of a liquid for detection containing particles or the amount of a substance to be detected can be detected quantitatively at a high S/N ratio with high accuracy. The detection method is a method for detecting a physical property of a liquid for detection which contains particles. The liquid for detection is supplied onto a total reflection surface of an analysis chip having a prism comprising a dielectric and including the total reflection surface, and, with the liquid for detection present on the total reflection surface, the total reflection surface is irradiated with light from the prism side at an incident angle equal to or greater than a critical angle so as to detect the quantity of scattered light emitted from the liquid for detection. The physical property of the liquid for detection is computed on the basis of the quantity of the scattered light.
