Provided is an image forming material that forms an image due to the irradiation of laser light and that comprises a support, a photothermal conversion layer, and an image forming layer containing: at least one coloring agent selected from a group consisting of compounds having a base structure represented by formula 1 and polymers of the compounds; resin; and a monomer or oligomer having at least two ethylenic unsaturated double bonds. Also provided is an image forming method.
