<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vinyl alcohol polymer providing a film excellent in water resistance and binder performance, and having sufficient water solubility and viscosity stability also in a neutral region; and to provide an aqueous solution containing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The vinyl alcohol polymer contains a monomer unit having a group represented by formula (1), and satisfies expression (I): 370≥P≥S≥6,000. The PVA preferably further satisfies expressions (II): 200≥P≥4,000 and (III): 0.1≥S≥10, wherein P: a viscosity average polymerization degree, and S: a content (mol%) of the monomer unit. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
