PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an aqueous solution containing an alkali metal-containing inorganic salt or a carboxyalkyl amino group-containing compound by efficiently separating them from an aqueous solution containing the alkali metal-containing inorganic salt and the carboxyalkyl amino group-containing compound.SOLUTION: A method of producing an aqueous solution of an alkali metal-containing inorganic salt or a carboxyalkyl amino group-containing compound includes the steps of: adjusting the pH value of an aqueous solution containing the alkali metal-containing inorganic salt and the carboxyalkyl amino group-containing compound to 6.0 or less; subsequently, adding a polyhalo aromatic compound to the aqueous solution and separating an organic phase containing the carboxyalkyl amino group-containing compound and the polyhalo aromatic compound, and a water phase containing the alkali metal-containing inorganic salt; and collecting the separated organic phase and water phase respectively.
