A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate 110 including a plurality of pixel regions; a second substrate 120 facing and spaced apart from the first substrate; a layer of liquid crystal material between the substrates; a thin film transistor Tr in each of the pixel regions; a pixel electrode 157on the first substrate in each of the pixel regions and connected to the thin film transistor; a common electrode on the first substrate or the second substrate; first and second column spacers 175a, 175b on the second substrate and corresponding to first and second pixel regions, respectively; wherein a first relative position of the first column spacer in the first pixel region is different from a second relative position of the second column spacer in the second pixel region. The column spacers are arranged to maintain the cell gap between the first and second substrates. The different relative positions of the first and second column spacers in the first and second pixel regions allows the cell gap to be maintained even when a degree of miss-alignment exists. |
