In a blade and blade mounting assembly for an axial-flow turbine or compressor, the blade comprises a root portion which is inserted into a bore in a blade-carrying part of the machine, for example the turbine or compressor rotor or stator casing or a ring member disposed between the rotor and the stator casing and supporting the stator blades or vanes. The blade root has a collar thereon at the end remote from the profile portion of the blade, and a ring member formed in at least two parts is clamped as a spacing element between the collar and the blade-carrying part of the machine. The spacing element, the collar and the bladecarrying part of the machine have matching bevelled surfaces where they are in contact with one another, the bevelled surfaces being so inclined that the two resultants of the thrusts acting on the bevelled surfaces of the spacing element lie along substantially the same line of action. The turbine rotor blade shown comprises a profile portion 2 and a root portion 3, a collar 5 being formed on the root portion 3 adjacent the end thereof remote from the profile portion of the blade. The blade is also formed with further collars 15 and 25 and with an octagonal plug portion 22. The blade is mounted in a rotor 1 which is formed with a bore 4 and a counter-bore 16, the bore 4 being of larger diameter than the collar 5 which can be passed therethrough but being substantially equal in diameter to the collar 25 so that the collar 25 serves to locate the blade. A spring washer 17 is inserted in the counter-bore 16 and the blade root is then inserted, the washer 17 being compressed by the collar 15. The two parts 6<SP>1</SP>, 611 of a diametrically split ring member are then inserted between the collar 5 and the inner surface of the rotor 1. A cap member 19 is then secured to the rotor so as to enclose the blade root assembly, the cap having an aperture 21 corresponding in shape to the plug portion 22 of the blade root whereby the blade is located in its correct angular position. The adjacent surfaces of the ring member 6<SP>1</SP>, 611, the collar 5 and the rotor are so inclined that the resultants of the thrusts 12, 13 acting thereon lie along substantially the same line of action as indicated by broken line 14. The blade may be pressed radially outwardly by screws indicated at 28 instead of by the spring washer 17. The invention is applicable also in the case in which the blades are mounted for angular adjustment. |
