The present invention relates to a method and device for controlling an inverter of an electric compressor for a vehicle, capable of controlling the speed and power amount of a motor at the same time when the inverter of the electric compressor for the vehicle is controlled. The device for controlling an inverter of an electric compressor for a vehicle according to the present invention includes: a motor unit outputting rotational power by operating according to a current control value; an electronic control unit (ECU) outputting a speed instruction value to control a rotational speed of the motor unit or outputting a power limit instruction value to control power consumption of the motor unit; a power control unit comparing the power limit instruction value applied by the ECU with a power consumption value applied by the motor unit and outputting a power control value according to a result of the comparison; a speed control unit outputting a speed control value based on the power control value of the power control unit and the speed instruction value of the ECU; and a current control unit outputting a current control value to the motor unit according to the power consumption value of the motor unit and the speed control value of the speed control unit. According to the present invention, the power amount and speed of the motor of the electric compressor can be controlled at the same time and, accordingly, a response speed of a power limiting algorithm is increased.
