The method involves estimating (12) signal to noise ratio in a tele-protection channel i.e. power line of network, by receiving (2) a signal by a receiver, filtering (6) the received signal, calculating (8) a magnitude representing a square modulus of second derivative of the filtered signal, and calculating (10) an average of the magnitude for estimating the ratio according to IEC 60.834 standard. Transmission of control signal to a control unit of an electrical installation by a receiver is inhibited (16) if the ratio is lower than a preset threshold. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for optimizing operation of a tele-protection system of an electrical installation (2) a receiver arranged in a tele-protection system of an electrical installation for receiving a signal (3) a computer program stored on a recording medium and comprising instructions to implement a method for optimizing operation of a tele-protection system of an electrical installation. |
