The present invention relates to a television and a control method thereof, and is to shorten a time consumed for auto-channel setting of the television and to solve a problem of wrongly recognizing a channel caused by signal distortion during the auto-channel setting of the television. To this end, according to the present invention, the control method of the television comprises the following steps: receiving a broadcasting signal; detecting whether a pilot signal is included in the received broadcasting signal or not; and setting a channel of the broadcasting signal as the channel of a first broadcast when the pilot signal is detected, and setting the channel of the broadcasting signal as the channel of a second broadcast when the pilot signal is not detected. |
