The method involves controlling operating conditions of a nitrogen oxide trap by applying specific law to a recommendation unit (5) so as to recommend possible change of transmission ratio when the trap is activated or maintained in a destocking stage. A list of possible operating points of the motorization system is established if any action is taken place on the transmission ratio. Distance between a reference point and each operation point of the list is calculated. A preferred operating point for which the distance is minimal is retained. An independent claim is also included for a motorization system for a vehicle.
