The present invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating xerostama, containing a compound isolated from an Ixeris dentata (Thunb.) Nakai. extract as an active ingredient. According to the present invention, the Ixeris dentata (Thunb.) Nakai. extract promotes amylase secretion when co-treating high-concentration glucose and Ixeris dentata (Thunb.) Nakai. together, in an experiment using human salivary gland (HSG) cells, and decreases expression of proteins associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress. In addition, an oxidation-reduction environment in an endoplasmic reticulum associated with protein synthesis is well maintained after short-term and long-term co-treatment of high-concentration glucose. Thus, the composition of the present invention can be useful as a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating xerostama and a functional health food.
