PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems occurring in an ultrasonic type range finder unit in which an ultrasonic sensor is installed at a low position (a position close to the ground surface) like a power supply device having a manual forklift or a slide mechanism, and a safety apparatus using the same, the problems in which the ground surface is detected and an obstacle desired to detect cannot be detected when the ultrasonic sensor is installed at the low position, and such opportunity that the ultrasonic sensor and a vehicle or the like collide with each other unintentionally and the ultrasonic sensor breaks down increases since equipment placed at the low position exists in a dead angle of the human.SOLUTION: The possibility that a vehicle or the like is brought into direct contact with an ultrasonic sensor is reduced by installing a cover with a recess in the vehicle and installing the ultrasonic sensor in the recess of the cover. Erroneous detection due to a reflection wave from the ground surface is prevented by installing the ultrasonic sensor in the cover in the state of facing obliquely upward. Erroneous detection due to submergence of the ultrasonic sensor in rainwater is prevented by protruding the ultrasonic sensor and a cushion from the surroundings and making the gradient on the lower side of the ultrasonic sensor steep.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
