The present invention provides a converter device capable of preventing an erroneous operation and breakdown of the converter device of an HVDC system, and an operating method of the converter device. The converter device of an HVDC system comprises: a valve which converts alternating current or direct current; a sensing unit which measures the relative humidity of a valve hole where the valve is positioned; and a control unit which decreases an output of the valve when the relative humidity is higher than the first reference humidity.
