COATED ARTICLES HAVING ABRASION RESISTANT, GLASS-LIKE COATINGS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide articles exhibiting excellent abrasion resistance.SOLUTION: Coated articles are provided comprising: (a) a substrate; (b) a porous sol-gel layer superimposed on at least one surface of the substrate, comprising a hydrolyzed tetraalkoxysilane; and (c) a sealant layer superimposed on at least one surface of the porous sol-gel layer and comprising an alkyltrihalosilane. The coated articles demonstrate superior abrasion resistance due to a glass-like layer formed from the combination of the porous sol-gel layer and sealant layer. The present invention relates to coated articles having abrasion resistant, glass-like coatings.SELECTED DRAWING: None
