The objective of the present invention is to provide a new method for treating organic matter using a catalyst, in the presence of water. The present invention is a method for treating organic matter using the redox cycle of a metal oxide catalyst under hydrothermic conditions, containing the following steps: (i) organic matter is oxidized by oxygen released from a metal oxide catalyst having an oxidized metal valency, and thereby forming a metal oxide catalyst having a reduced metal valency, and oxidized organic matter; and (ii) simultaneously with (i), oxygen released from water oxidizes the metal oxide catalyst having a reduced metal valency, and as a result, the metal oxide catalyst having an oxidized metal valency is regenerated. The metal oxide catalyst is a solid electrolyte. |
