Abstract Provided herein is a method of treating a condition in a host that is responsive to an agonist, the method comprising administering to the host a multi-layer pharmaceutical composition comprising the agonist eg. an opioid and an antagonist eg. naltrexone thereof, wherein the agonist and antagonist are not in direct contact with one another in the intact form of the composition.
