The present invention relates to a ballast water filtering apparatus, which comprises: a housing which has an inlet unit and an outlet unit through which the ballast water of a vessel is able to flow in and out, and is divided into the upper part of the upper housing and the lower part of the lower housing by a lower plate; a filter unit which is positioned in the upper part of the housing and filters ballast water flowing in through the inlet unit; and an automatic washing unit which washes foreign matters attached to the filter unit. The automatic washing unit includes an airtightness unit including: a support plate which is positioned between a driving shaft and the upper part of a lower cover and prevents back washing water from leaking from the upper part of the lower cover; the upper part of the lower cover which occupies a predetermined area, where the driving shaft penetrates the housing, and is formed to be thicker than the thickness of the housing body; the lower part of the lower cover which is combined to cover the upper part of the lower cover in the lower side of the upper part of the lower cover; and a lower core which supports the support plate by being positioned between the upper part of the lower cover and the lower part of the lower cover. The candle type ballast water filtering apparatus improves the airtightness performance of the housing so that the back washing water of the intake unit does not leak to the outside of the housing along the driving shaft even if the driving shaft rotates after penetrating and being inserted into the inside from the outside of the housing.
