The present invention provides an organic solvent dispersion of zirconium oxide particles, which is obtained by dispersing zirconium oxide particles in an organic solvent other than methanol and ethanol at a content ratio of 20% by weight or more. The zirconium oxide particles are surface-treated with a surface treatment agent containing a silane coupling agent represented by general formula (I) and 12-hydroxystearic acid. The D50 of the zirconium oxide particles in the organic solvent dispersion is within the range of 1-20 nm. The transmittance of the organic solvent dispersion at a wavelength of 400 nm is 10% or more, and the transmittance thereof at a wavelength of 800 nm is 80% or more. The viscosity of the organic solvent dispersion immediately after the production at 25°C is 10 mPa·s or less, and the increase of the viscosity 7 days after the production relative to the viscosity immediately after the production is 10 mPa·s or less.
