An aqueous polymer and inorganic nanoparticle composite lithium battery separator, comprising a polyolefin support layer (2), one side of said polyolefin support layer being a polymer coating (1), and the other side being ceramic coating (3); the polymer coating (1) and the ceramic coating (3) are composed using a coating process, the coating slurries used for the polymer coating (1) and the ceramic coating (3) both being aqueous slurry, the polymer coating (1) at least comprising aqueous adhesive and polymer particles, said ceramic coating (3) at least comprising aqueous adhesive and inorganic nanoparticles. Also disclosed is a preparation method for said separator. The present invention has the advantages of the manufactured lithium battery separator having high thermal safety and a long life cycle, and environmental pollution during production being low.
