Provided are a magnetic element and a skyrmion memory and the like having endurance (durability) of a nearly infinite number of times of data writing and nearly permanent data retention (holding) characteristics, and capable of ultra-high speed writing and erasure. For example, provided is a magnetic element capable of generation and erasure of a skyrmion, the magnetic element comprising: a thin-layered magnetic material structured by being enclosed by a non-magnetic material; a current route disposed on one side of the magnetic material and enclosing an end region including an end of the magnetic material; and a skyrmion detection element that detects generation and erasure of the skyrmion, wherein the magnetic material has a size such that 2λ > Wm > λ/2 and 2λ > hm > λ/2 with respect to the diameter λ of the generated skyrmion, where Wm is the width and hm is the height of the magnetic material, and wherein the end region is such that λ ≥ W > λ/4 and 2λ > h > λ/2 where W is the width in a direction parallel with the end of the magnetic material in the end region, and h is the height in a direction perpendicular to the end of the magnetic material in the end region. |
