An image processing unit (4) of an image reading device (1) is provided with: a low range removal unit (42) which removes low-range frequency components from image data in a pixel range including a notice pixel and neighboring pixels thereof to obtain low range-removed reference data and low range-removed comparison data; a degree-of-similarity calculation unit (43) which calculates a plurality of degrees of similarity between the low range-removed reference data and a plurality of pieces of low range-removed comparison data; a shift amount estimation unit (44) which, on the basis of a difference from the position in a sub-scanning direction of the low range-removed comparison data having the highest degree of similarity, calculates shift amount data; and a coupling processing unit (45) which determines the position in the sub-scanning direction of image data on the basis of the calculated shift amount data and couples image data read by adjacent line sensors in different lines from each other to thereby generate composite image data.
