PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an isotropic pitch-based carbon fiber more excellent in thermal insulation performance, sound absorbance performance, slidability or the like than conventional isotropic pitch-based carbon fiber in terms of unit weight and having smaller average fiber diameter, and a production method for the isotropic pitch-based carbon fiber.SOLUTION: There is provided the pitch-based carbon fiber that uses an isotropic pitch as a carbon precursor, has an average fiber diameter of 10 μm or less and contains 6 to 1000 mass ppm of boron. The pitch-based carbon fiber is obtained by a production method having a heat treatment step of subjecting a precursor fiber of carbon fiber to heat treatment at 2800 to 3000°C under atmosphere containing boron, the precursor fiber of carbon fiber being obtained with the isotropic pitch as a raw material.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
