Class 52(2) A chair has a combined back rest and seat unit 1 tiltably mounted about pivots 3 secured to the side frames 2 of the chair and a foot rest 4 with cam-like profile 6 is supported on pivots 5 carried by brackets 5a secured to the seat unit, a flexible belt 7 having one end secured to a cross rail 8 and the other to the foot rest 4 around the profile 6 so that tilting backward of unit 1 applies tension to belt 7 and causes the foot rest to be swung out. The tilting may be prevented by a latch member 9 on bracket 5a engaging with a cross rail 8a. The leg rest may be returned to its out of use position by a flexible member 10 anchored to a rail 11 of the foot rest and through a spring 12 to the seat frame. In a modification, Fig. 3, the seat is stationary and the foot rest is extended to its position of use by means of a lever 13 pivoted to the chair frame and connected to the member 7. |
