A laminated material, especially suitable for packing chemical products, grain, flour, &c., comprises heat-weldable sheet material such as polyvinyl chloride sheet heat sealed to a net of yarns, surface portions of some or all of which are formed from heat-weldable material, and some or all of said yarns having components or cores of high mechanical strength and low elongation, e.g. of nylon. The material may comprise two sheets enclosing a fabric layer, two fabric layers enclosing a sheet, or a number of alternate layers of sheet and fabric. As shown, a gauze-woven fabric comprises nylon wefts 5, 6, 7, and twisted warps of nylon yarns la, 2a, 3a, and P.V.C.-coated nylon yarns 1, 2, 3. 9 is the P.V.C. sheet. In modifications, all the yarns are of P.V.C. coated nylon, or both warp and weft comprise nylon and P.V.C: yarns twisted together. Heat sealing may be effected by passing the superposed layers vertically downwards between infra-red heating units, which may be shielded in the event of a stoppage by screens dropped vertically in front of them. |
