In apparatus for impact extruding a hot metal billet 16, Fig. 2, having a container 23 and ram 31, heating means 34 are provided to surround the billet immediately prior to its insertion into the container, and heat it to extrusion temperature. The billet is of zirconium-coated uranium used for nuclear fuel elements. Both the billet and the apparatus are the same as described in Specification 851,948. |
