Hybrid electric vehicle controller 140 can command electrical generator 123B, 123C to charge a charge storage device / battery 150 through enhanced charging operation S109 when a first set of conditions are met, the conditions comprising: stationary vehicle condition S105; user brake application S107; transmission 124 in a predetermined operating condition S103 (e.g. drive / reverse) for providing drive torque to driveline 130. Conditions may also include battery low state of charge (SOC), or detection of selected driving modes. Driving modes may be subsystem control modes e.g. transmission, steering, braking, powertrain, traction control, yaw control, or suspension control. Engine speed may be predetermined for enhanced charging, possibly dependent on frequency / duration of previous enhanced charging operations, or on driving style e.g. frequency of torque requests or throttle uses / rate of movement of throttle. Claims are also included to a method of use, computer program, processor, and computer readable medium. |
