The invention relates to a mattress assembly comprising a mattress 10 and a gas supply means wherein the mattress 10 comprises a plurality of chambers 30, 40 which are adapted to be inflated with gas and wherein the gas supply means comprises a controller adapted to control the pressure of gas within said chambers 30, 40. In a preferred embodiment, the mattress comprises only two pipes connecting the mattress to a pump, however, in other embodiments, the mattress is adapted to a) measure the pressure under the patient; and b) operate in dynamic and static modes, whereby the pressure in cells is caused to inflate and deflate in a periodic cycle. Also provided are a mattress 10, an inflated mattress assembly and a cell 20 for use in a mattress 10. |
