摘要 <p>A process for the polymerization of a hydrocarbon gas containing propylene comprises contacting the gas in a reaction chamber at 125 DEG -315 DEG F. and a pressure of 150 - 770 p.s.i. with 14 - 120% of an adduct catalyst comprising BF3, water and normally liquid hydrocarbons per unit weight of the propylene content of the total feed per hour, the adduct having been prepared by contacting the same or a similar hydrocarbon gas with 0,3 to 4,0 mol % of BF3 based on the propylene content of said gas and 0,01 to 0,50 % of water based on the total quantity of hydrocarbons containing three carbon atoms per molecule present in the gas at 125 DEG -315 DEG F. and a pressure of 150 to 770 p.s.i., said adduct catalyst being regenerated and/or maintained in a highly active state for an indefinite period of time by continuously or intermittently adding small amounts of BF3 and water to the reaction chamber. The polymerization may be made continuous and the hydrocarbon gas may contain also small amounts of ethylene, butene and lower paraffins and the ethylene and butene may be partially polymerized by this process. The polymer products may be converted to sulphonate-type detergents by alkylation of an aromatic hydrocarbon in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst followed by sulphonation and salt formation.</p>
