A magnet management method (100) controls a ferrite permanent magnet electrical machine, and comprises: a step (110) of receiving and/or estimating a temperature of a permanent magnet; a step (112) of determining whether the temperature is lower than a predetermined temperature; a step (114) of selectively heating the magnet to prevent demagnetization if the temperature is lower than the predetermined temperature; and/or a step (116) of decreasing a rated output of the machine. A similar method (200) provides a step of analyzing magnetic flux or a magnetization level to control the magnetization level. A controller using various methods is disclosed. The present invention describes specific embodiments.
