The present invention relates to a motor driving device and an air conditioner having the motor driving device. The motor driving device according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a rectification unit which rectifies input alternating current power; a boost converter which boosts the voltage of the power rectified by the rectification unit and outputs the power; a capacitor which stores pulsating voltage outputted from the boost converter; an inverter which includes multiple switching elements and outputs the converted alternating current power to a motor by using the pulsating voltage; and a control unit which controls the inverter to be operated as a first mode in which a frequency of phase current flowing in the motor is identical to the frequency of the input alternating current power when inverter power for driving the motor is less than reference power, and controls the inverter to be operated as a second mode in which the frequency of the phase current flowing in the motor is double the frequency of the input alternating current power. Accordingly, in the motor driving device using the low-capacity capacitor and the boost converter, it is possible to perform stable driving with respect to a load.
