PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix converter that directly converts AC power to AC power in a simple process.SOLUTION: The matrix converter for directly converting input three-phase AC power to three-phase AC power to be output to a load includes a bidirectional switch circuit for turning on/off the supply of the input three-phase AC power to the load, and a control section for generating switching patterns of the bidirectional switch circuit so as to perform on the input three-phase AC power different virtual AC/DC conversion processes depending on a plurality of modes divided in accordance with magnitude relationships among phases of voltage of the input three-phase AC power, select two phases of the input three-phase AC power, and perform on a line voltage between the selected two phases different virtual DC/AC conversion processes depending on the plurality of modes. |
