The present invention relates to a display substrate and a manufacturing method thereof, remarkably reducing the number of photo masks by using an etch stopper method when a display substrate used for a liquid crystal display device in a plane to line switching (PLS) mode is manufactured, and providing a narrow bezel by further including a direct-contact (D-CNT) unit in the display substrate. The display substrate includes: a lower common electrode formed on a substrate; an insulation layer formed on the lower common electrode; a gate pattern including a gate electrode formed on the insulation layer, and an electrode-contact unit and the D-CNT unit disposed to be spaced from the gate electrode; a gate insulation layer formed on the substrate including the gate pattern; a semiconductor layer disposed on the gate insulation layer; an etching stopper layer formed on the gate insulation layer having the semiconductor layer disposed thereon; a source and a drain electrode disposed on the etching stopper layer; a pixel unit extended from the source and drain electrodes; a first conductive layer connected to the electrode-contact unit and a second conductive layer connected to the direct-contact unit; and a passivation layer formed on the source and drain electrodes and the conductive layers. |
