876,909. Nesting chairs. KNOLL ASSOCIATES Inc. June 29, 1960 [Jan. 4, 1960], No. 22749/60. Class 52(2). A nesting chair has a seat and back shell 1, moulded from a polyester resin reinforced by glass fibre or other material, supported on a column 23 secured to a base 33, the shell 1 having a slot 85 extending rearwardly from its front edge to receive the column of a second nested chair. An inner shell 7 of paper pulp impregnated with asphalt is adhesively secured to shell 1, the edge portions of the shells being spaced to provide a peripheral recess which receives the edge portions of upholstery fabric 11 which in turn covers a foam rubber cushion 9 secured to inner shell 7. The relation between the seat thickness and the length of column between seat and base limits the number of chairs in one stack to six. |
