The detergent component of a homogeneous liquid detergent composition consists by weight of (a) 25-65, preferably 28-50, parts of alkylphenoxypolyethenoxyethanols in which the alkyl group contains 8 or 9 carbon atoms and the polyethenoxyethanol residues contains an average of 11-20, more suitably 12-16 and most preferably 12-13, ethylene oxide units, and (b) 75-35, preferably 72-50, parts of at least one alkali metal or ammonium alkylbenzene sulphonate in which the alkyl group contains 9-15, preferably 12, carbon atoms, (a) and (b) together comprising 10-70%, preferably 25-50%, by weight of the composition, the balance consisting of water and not more than 8% by weight of the composition of other compatible ingredients such as alkanols, e.g. isopropanol, or alkanolamides, perfume or colour. p |
