A cathode active material is provided which is capable of improving charge/discharged potential and increasing energy density. The cathode active material is for a lithium-ion secondary battery and is represented by the composition formula: xLi2MnO3-(1−x)LiNiaMnbO2. In the composition formula, x, a, and b are numerals satisfying the following relationships: 0.2<x<0.8, 0.5<a<1, 0<b<0.5, and a+b=1. |
