1. A method for powering a data storage device (DSD) including at least a first storage tier and a second storage tier, the method comprising:
monitoring a current used by the DSD; determining a current threshold based on at least one of a rate of change of the monitored current and a duration for which the monitored current is above a predetermined level; determining whether the current exceeds the current threshold; and asserting a throttle signal to reduce power used by the first storage tier when it is determined that the current exceeds the current threshold. |
