PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device and a control method for an automatic transmission, capable of reducing the frequency of errors in determining that detection means provided for the automatic transmission is in failure.SOLUTION: The control device for the automatic transmission includes transmission state detecting means (12) for detecting the state of an automatic transmission (2), a common power control means (140) for supplying electricity to a hydraulic control valve (5) and the transmission state detecting means (12), failure determining means (121) for determining that the transmission state detecting means (12) is in failure if the abnormal condition of the transmission state detecting means (12) continues over a predetermined period when predetermined conditions are established, and resetting means (123) for temporarily stopping the supply of electricity to the hydraulic control valve (5) and the transmission state detecting means (12) in the case of no shifting operation when the predetermined conditions are established. For the failure determining means (121), the predetermined period is set to be longer than a shifting operation period for the automatic transmission (2).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
