Class 144(2) In a pneumatic tyre having a carcase 2 comprising superposed layers of rubberized cords directed parallel with, or at an angle not exceeding 10 degrees to, transverse radial planes, the cords of adjacent layers being parallel or mutually inclined at an angle not exceeding 20 degrees, a breaker structure 1 of at least two superposed layers of parallel substantially inextensible rubberized textile fibre cords is disposed between the tread 3 and carcase 2, the cords of each layer of the breaker 1 being parallel with, or at an angle not exceeding 20 degrees to, the mid-circumferential plane of the tyre, and the cords of adjacent superposed layers being parallel or mutually inclined at an angle not exceeding 40 degrees, and the breaker comprising either a single full-width ring or a plurality of smaller-width rings side by side. The edges of the breaker ring or rings may be turned against the rest of the ring, the amount of fold increasing towards the outer side rings in the case of the breaker comprising more than one ring. The breaker may be parallel to and of the same width as the tread strip 3 and the cords may be cotton, flax, rayon or nylon fibre. The tyre may be moulded so that in cross-section it has greater width than height, the breaker structure cords being thereby placed under tension when the tyre is inflated. |
