A supported strap twist device (14) reorients a strap (S) along a strap path. The device (14) includes an inlet (28), an outlet (30) and a reorienting section (32). The reorienting section (32) includes a body (50) having entrance (52) and exit (54) ends and a transition section (66) therebetween. The transition section (66) has a through-bore (68) having a varying cross-sectional shape defining a race (74). The race (74) has, at a first end (70), an opposed inwardly pinched circular profile defining a gap (76). The circular profile thins along the race (74) toward an hourglass profile, and has, at a second end (82), an elongated shape. The gap (76) has a substantially constant width along the race (74). The strap (S) enters the first end (70) at an angle (a) relative to the second end (82) and is reoriented to a desired orientation at the second end (82). The strap (S) is supported by the race (74) as it traverses therethrough. |
