SYSTEMS FOR ACCOMMODATING SEPARATION OF BODY PARTS IN AUDITORY PROSTHESES

An auditory prosthesis includes a fixation system manufactured in whole or in part from a deformable material, such as a viscoelastic material. The viscoelastic material responds viscously to loads applied over an extended period of time. Thus, the material is able to accommodate growth of a recipient's anatomy without becoming disconnected or misaligned from any attachment points. This allows the device to accommodate growth of a recipient over time.

1. An apparatus comprising:
a fixation element for fixing the apparatus to a skull of a recipient; an attachment element for attaching the apparatus to an internal ear structure of the recipient; and a linkage structure connecting the fixation element to the attachment element, wherein at least one of the fixation element, the attachment element, and the linkage structure comprise a deformable material.
