PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide defect filler compositions for bone or parts adjacent to bone such as connective tissue, cartilage and bone marrow.SOLUTION: A self-assembling bone filler composition comprises (a) and (b): (a) a first amino acid domain which mediates self-assembly and comprises alternating hydrophobic and hydrophilic amino acids that are complementary and structurally compatible and self-assemble into a macroscopic structure upon implantation into a subject; and (b) a second amino acid domain which does not self-assemble in an isolated form and comprises at least one minimal biologically active sequence acting to regenerate bone in the subject.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1B
