Staple fibres of regenerated cellulose are made by spinning viscose into an acid regenerating bath containing zinc salts, stretching the filaments obtained in a bath of hot, acid, aqueous liquor containing a dispersing agent and cutting the filaments into staple fibres; presence of the dispersing agent prolongs the life of the cutters. Suitable dispersing agents are amine/ethylene oxide condensates having average molecular weights of between 500 and 1,000 and corresponding to the general formula:- <FORM:0867223/IV (a)/1> where R is hydrogen or an alkyl radical and x and y are integers, and the monolauryl ether of polyethylene glycol. The viscose or the regenerating bath may contain a modifier such as polyethylene glycol.
|
