Provided is a drum washing machine (1), capable of preventing damage to the fabric of articles of laundry when a load is detected. The drum washing machine (1) is provided with: an external tank (20) configured inside a housing (10); a drum (22) is configured inside the external tank (20) and is capable of rotation about the horizontal axis or about an axis inclined with respect to the horizontal direction; a rotating body (24) configured at the rear part of the drum (22), the surface of the rotating body (24) having a protruding section (24a) in contact with the articles of laundry; a drive unit (30) capable of operating in a first drive mode and a second drive mode; the first drive mode is a drive mode which causes the drum (22) and the rotating body (24) to rotate at different rotational speeds; the second drive mode is a drive mode which causes the drum (22) and the rotating body (24) to rotate as one integral body at identical rotational speeds; and a control unit (801). At this point the control unit (801) detects the load of articles of laundry in the drum (22), and while detecting the load, causes the drive unit (30) to operate in single-axis drive mode (S13, S14). |
