The invention concerns a modular battery system comprising a housing (52) for accommodating at least two battery modules (10), the housing (52) having on one inner side (54) connection elements (56) for receiving connection elements (48) on the battery modules (10), in order to secure the battery modules (10) in the housing (52), each battery module (10) having an end plate (22, 36, 42) on which the connection elements (48) of the battery modules (10) are arranged. This results in a simplified modular battery system with good functional properties and fewer components.
